william roman

general manager, son of eugene + renata, 3rd generation beekeeper

In 1982, on their honeymoon to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Eugene had promised Renata that one day they would open a winery together. As the story goes, she smiled and laughed, and 18 years later, they purchased a soon-to-be-vineyard property on the Beamsville Bench to begin their juice-filled project.

Eugene comes from a lifelong tradition of beekeeping (learned from his father) and Renata comes from a successful career as a physiotherapist (it’s always helpful to have a physiotherapist around during harvest).
Their son William is a 3rd generation life-long beekeeper alongside his father as well as Winery general manager. William oversees its day-to-day operations working closely with head winemaker Ryan corrigan on many of the different aspects on the farm, including vineyard to production, front house, sales and marketing.

head winemaker Doug mackenzie’s passion for wine began at an early age. With a background in farming and a love for science, he pursued a career in winemaking at the Food and Wine Institute at Niagara College. There, he recognized the future potential of the Niagara wine region and has been committed to its growth and success ever since.

Since enrolling at the Food and Wine Institute, Doug has not missed a single vintage. By the age of 30, he will have participated in over 10 vintages in Niagara. His experience encompasses every facet of the Niagara wine region, from vineyard management to winemaking at some of the area's largest wineries, providing him with a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

Doug thrives on the farm, often found in the depths of the cellar, cruising through the vineyards, and tackling any task required at Rosewood. Beginning as an Assistant Winemaker in 2021, Doug's influence has been instrumental in shaping Rosewood into the esteemed winery it is today. He is a firm believer in Rosewood's winemaking philosophy, which emphasizes crafting unique, premium, vintage-specific, balanced story driven wines that honor the place and the people who cultivate it.
